Why Ray Dalio Says Gold Still Protects Wealth in Today’s Uncertain Global Economy
Published 6 months ago
Billionaire investor Ray Dalio, founder of Bridgewater Associates, believes gold remains one of the most reliable stores of wealth amid rising global uncertainty. Speaking at the World Government Summit in Dubai, Dalio highlighted growing concerns over government debt, geopolitical tensions, and the long-term stability of fiat currencies.
He explained that since the end of the gold-backed monetary system in 1971, governments have increasingly relied on printing money, leading to higher debt levels and questioning the role of traditional currencies as reliable stores of value. This shift has encouraged central banks and sovereign investors to increase their gold holdings.
Addressing recent price volatility, Dalio cautioned against treating gold as a short-term investment. Instead, he emphasized its role as a long-term portfolio stabilizer and an effective diversifier during periods of crisis. According to Dalio, consistent asset allocation and diversification remain essential strategies for protecting wealth in volatile markets.
