UAE introduces mandatory Advertiser Permit for influencers and content creators

Published 6 months ago

The UAE has introduced a new law requiring influencers, content creators, and digital advertisers to obtain an Advertiser Permit before promoting products or services on social media platforms. The regulation aims to strengthen transparency, protect consumers, and bring structure to the fast-growing influencer marketing industry.

Under the updated rules, any individual or entity creating paid promotional content—whether on Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Snapchat, or other digital platforms—must secure the permit from the relevant UAE authorities. This applies to influencers, freelancers, and even businesses that directly advertise through personal or branded social media accounts.

Authorities have warned that non-compliance can result in fines of up to Dh1 million, along with potential account suspensions or legal action. The move is designed to curb misleading advertising, undisclosed promotions, and unlicensed commercial activity online.

The Advertiser Permit also ensures that sponsored content meets the UAE’s advertising standards, including clear disclosure of paid partnerships and adherence to ethical and cultural guidelines. Influencers are expected to label advertisements transparently and avoid promoting prohibited or misleading products.

Industry experts believe the regulation will professionalise influencer marketing in the UAE, creating a safer environment for consumers and more credibility for brands and creators alike. While the new requirement may add an administrative step, it is expected to boost trust and long-term sustainability in the digital advertising space.

Content creators operating in or targeting the UAE market are strongly advised to review the requirements and secure the necessary permits to avoid penalties and ensure continued compliance.
